What is INFONAVIT?
Infonavit (short for Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda para los Trabajadores) is Mexico’s federal tri-partite institute established to provide affordable housing solutions and mortgage financing to formal private-sector workers.
It operates as a massive social welfare organization and is funded primarily by mandatory employer contributions equal to 5% of each employee’s integrated salary.
These funds go into an individual “Housing Sub-account” (Subcuenta de Vivienda) under the worker’s name.
For Mexican citizens (and legal foreign residents) registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), access to Infonavit provides key social, financial, and real estate benefits.
